Hi dear,
Hope you are doing well!
Now let's go through your question.
Industrial Chemistry is somewhere between Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry.
Ironically, in IIT BHU, engineering courses in chemistry started under the name of Industrial Chemistry and later the department was renamed to Chemical Engineering and Technology. On the other hand, applied chemistry course was introduced quite later which is now available as a five year course in Industrial Chemistry.(Check out the institute website for more details)
So as you see, it is quite confusing!
Hence let's be practical
Here in IIT BHU, Industrial Chemistry goes with close relationship to Chemical Engineering in terms of opportunities. With more than 90 years of legacy, the alumni base from these departments is huge which itself speaks for placement potential.
If you are not interested in Industrial Chemistry, branch change is an option and is relatively easy in IIT BHU, as compared to other IITs; the only limitation being that you can change among five year courses only.
You can opt for newer IITs, if you expect your desired branch but choose wisely as in my opinion, not all the new IITs are at par with IIT BHU.
Thank You & All the best!
