Hello,

The specified deadline for upper age limit for UPSC official notification over the year has been on 2nd August, now in the year 2019 as per the notification age relaxation up to five years was offered to candidates domiciled in the state of Jammu and Kashmir during the period from the 1st day of January, 1980 to the 31st day of December, 1989 however as per this year official notification there has been no such mention on age relaxation criteria, so only if UPSC applies the age relaxation criteria in 2021 then only you can appear next year otherwise applying through general category will not possible the reason being the upper age limit will be not born before 2nd August, 1989

For your further clarity, I'm attaching the official notification of UPSC for the two years;

2019 @ https://upsc.gov.in/sites/default/files/Final_Notice_CSPE_2019_N.pdf

2020 @ https://www.upsc.gov.in/sites/default/files/Notification-CSPE_2020_N_Engl.pdf

Dear Aspirant,

for the IAS Examination there is an age relaxation option. The upper age limit is relax able depending on the category the candidate belongs to. Which in your case is,

  • Up to five years if a candidate had been domiciled in Jammu and Kashmir from January 1st, 1980 to December 31st, 1989

However during the UPSC exam you will be required to submit the required certificates, such as, the date of birth, as mentioned in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or in an equivalent Matriculation certificate recognized by any Indian University.

Hi Jasmin!

According to UPSC Eligibility Criteria, a candidate must be between 21 and 32 years of age. By August 1st, 2021, you'll be 32 years which means you are eligible!

And as you said, for Kashmiris there is an age relaxation of 5 years.

So, go ahead and pursue your goal of becoming a UPSC aspirant!

All the very best!
