DEAR aspirant,

To understand any language the most important thing you should do is read in that language.

YOu should start with simple books like three men and a boat, harry potter, or Chetan Bhagat books. Make a habit of reading books. Use dictionary whenever you get struck.

THe other thing you should do is read newspaper like THE HINDU, INDIAN EXPRESS, etc. This will help you in both understanding the language and make your language good.

THe other important activity you must do is write the summary of the books you read in about 1000 words. Try to summarise the news articles in simple bullete points.
