See, now jee mains occur twice in a year . So you can apply twice. and based on your rank (which is best of two attempts) you can proceed for centralised counselling ,which is conducted by JOOSA(joint seat allocation authority) online. In that counselling you can choose as many college /branch for which you are qualified for (Main or Advance).
Hope this will be sufficient for you.
Best of Luck.

After JEE MAIN, you will get admission in b.tech colleges on the basis of your rank. In order to get admission in top most NITs, you need to secure a rank within 10000, for that you need to score atleast 240+ marks. If you want to get admission in IITs, you have to appear for JEE ADVANCED.
Hi vishwambar, opting IIT or NIT is a very good choice for you as those both are top rated colleges in india and have excellent teaching and placements. You need to write both jee mains and jee advanced exams to get into iit. for nit, you need to write jee mains exam only, for detailed cutoffs on your preference of branch, you can check https://engineering.careers360.com/exams/jee-main/articles for more details.
You can also get into other colleges through jee mains scores.
Hope this helps.
Thank you.
