Hello aditya,

As you are a general candidate it won't be easy to get calls from top business schools like IIMs at this percentile. You won't get academic diversity factor as you are an engineer.  Dont be disheartened you have a bright chances of getting calls from other premiere institutes like tapmi manipal, bit mesra, nit, ism dhanbad and iits.

While majority of the top league B-schools have replaced Group Discussion (GD) with Writing Ability Test (WAT), several mid rung institutes still conduct GD. Hence, keep yourself informed about the selection rounds and prepare yourself well to perform well and around 50 per cent weightage is assigned to the Personal Appearance rounds.

Cheers !!

Aditya with 87.81 percentile as a general category student, you won't be able to get calls from any IIMs. But below is the list of colleges where you have a good probability of getting a call and converting it.

  • TAPMI - Manipal
  • Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM), Trichy
  • Department of Business Economics, University of Delhi
  • FORE School of Management, New Delhi
  • Great Lakes Institute of Management (GLIM), Chennai (PGDM Two-Year Programme)
  • Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Ghaziabad
  • Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA)
  • K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research (SIMSR), Mumbai
  • MISB Bocconi, Mumbai
  • National Institute of Banking & Management (NIBM), Pune

There is again no surety of selection or getting a call from these colleges because CAT marks are not the only parameter involved in the selection procedure. After CAT exam every college in which you have applied prepares a merit list to call students for next round of interview based on your aggregate score which comprises of many parameters such as CAT marks, 10th, 12th and graduation percentage, work experience, engineer or non-engineer whose weightage varies for all different colleges.

And after your second round of interview again a new merit list is made which also includes marks of your interview, GD and WSAT which along with CAT marks generally have the highest weightage.

All the best!!

Thank you so much for your words. I just have one more question. I did apply for IMT Ghaziabad and IMI Delhi, though i know the last year cut off's for both the colleges were 90percentile approx. Are there any chances to secure a GD-PI call from these two colleges?

It will be a little difficult but you are close to cut-off so you can still try because many times you get a call at a little lower percentile if you have a strong profile.

Thank you once again Mr. Akshay. I'm applying for IIT kanpur as well. The program would be worthy i expect as return on investment is one of the best things along with the infrastructure! They only take in Engineers which would help me further according to me. What are your views on the same?

Yes definitely IIT Kanpur is good in terms of ROI and average package is also good. You can go for it. You will get good exposure and opportunity to learn and grow yourself.

With my percentile, if I dont make it to IMT Ghaziabad, should I take up other colleges like BIM or FORE, or should I opt for their other campuses like Nagpur or hyderabad? I Would really like if you can give me a rational approach to it.

I think you should keep backup with other colleges like fore Nd BIM because other campus are not that good enough and we won't be even sure about their cut-off.

Say if you got a chance but you were not able to perform due to your bad luck in second round and fail to get admission so it will be a problem even for other campus but in other colleges you would again get a chance to appear in second round and improve your performance.

So it's always better to keep max colleges in your bag. In the end you can choose the best one.
