Preparing for JEE. Following are some of the tips to Practice Problems or to sharpen your problem solving skills.
1. Since most of the questions are based on fundamentals & their applications so the first step is to establish a solid base by mastering the fundamentals. For mastering the fundamentals you have to be focused. Dont use too many courses or books. Most of the students end up buying 5 to 6 books for one subject. Remember that more than 80 to 90 % problems in most of the books are same so what you are doing when you use 5 to 6 books is just repetition of same problems. Instead of it what makes sense is that just buy 1 or 2 books to master the fundamentals and then go for different question banks to do more and more practice. Decide about the course & books after discussing with your seniors & friends & then stick to them.
2. Remember you learn only by doing and not by reading and revision. So try to write/solve all important concepts/problems.
3. Theory and problem solving are not separate they are closely linked to each other. Even if you understand this point and implement it seriously in your preparation, the game is won and you are on a different platform. Theory should lead to questions which would lead to answers which would in turn lead to more questions.
4. While you are mastering fundamentals you might face questions which take you hours and still you may not be able to find the solution. It is OK and donot think that your time is getting waste. All this time will help in sharpening your problem solving skills. In competitive exams you have questions which involve multiple concepts and it these problems what is important how you approach/attack a problem and this skill develops with time. So always remember the key to master the fundamentals is continuous interplay between theory and problem solving.
5. Try to correlate the learnings of your subjects with the day to day life practical examples or in other words correlate your classroom learning with real life learning. This will help you in understanding the fundamentals better. Whenever you study/learn a concept, try to go deep into the concept and try to understand the correlation of the concept with other concepts of the same subject for example the relation between a heat and light concept.
But remember all the above points will require lot of patience and time
