Yes, you can write the CLAT examination after your 12th. You can also apply for it while studying in 12th.
Now regarding the preparation, there are certain points you will have to look at.

Now, the subjects involved in this exam are 5, they are
1. Legal Aptiude- 50 marks
2. General Awareness - 50 marks

Yes you can apply for your CLAT examination after 10+2 that is after your 12th exams. After which you would be doing a 5 year law course (BLS-LLB). if you belong to the general/OBC/SAP or any other unreserved category you must have minimum score of 45% and if you belong to SC/ST category you ust have minimum 40%. Its a total 200 marks question paper giving you +1 for correct answer and -0.25 for wrong answer. There are 5 main subjects for same are:
1)English (40 questions)
2)G.K and current Affairs (50 questions)
3)Mathematics (20 questions)
4)Legal Aptitude (50 questions)
5)Logical Reasoning. (40 questions)
