Hi, I just want to ask one thing I'm from the General category and my family income is also much less than 8 lacs per annum but my family owns two houses one in the hometown village and another one in the city but both are in very small areas. So, am I eligible for the EWS category or not?
Hello there,
To be eligible for the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) category, you must meet the following criteria as per the guidelines:
-
Income Limit:
Your family income must be less than
Rs. 8 lakh per annum
from all sources.
-
Property Criteria:
The family should not own more than
5 acres of agricultural land
or
residential flat
with an area larger than
2000 square feet
.
- Other Assets: Your family’s net worth should not exceed the specified limits set by the government, which includes assets like land, residential properties, etc.
Since your family owns two houses, you need to check if their combined area exceeds the permissible limit. If the total area of both properties is small (less than the 2000 square feet limit) and your income is below Rs. 8 lakh, you could still be eligible for the EWS category.
It's best to check the
EWS certificate
guidelines issued by your state or the institution where you are applying. You may need to submit proof of income, property ownership, and other documents during your application process to verify your eligibility.
