Hello,
To become a police officer in India, especially after completing your 12th grade, there are a few paths you can follow. The most common route is to appear for the State Police Services exam or the Civil Services exam (for IPS), depending on the level of officer position you aspire to.
- For State Police Service: Most states conduct their own recruitment exams for constable and sub-inspector positions. Typically, candidates need to have passed their 12th grade from a recognized board. You must meet the age and physical fitness criteria, as well as go through a series of tests including a written exam, physical tests, and an interview. It’s advisable to check the specific state police recruitment websites for detailed information on eligibility and the selection process.
- For IPS (Indian Police Service): To become an IPS officer, you need to clear the UPSC Civil Services Examination, which requires a graduate degree. Although you can't directly enter IPS with just 12th, after completing your undergraduate studies, you can appear for this exam. The process includes preliminary exams, mains exams, and an interview.
