Hello Anusha,

To become a researcher in the field of biology you don't have to appear for NEET examination however other entrance examinations are required. PhD in biology is a minimum three years long doctoral degree. To be eligible for PhD in biology science you must have a minimum of 50% marks aggregate for your masters degree in biology (MSc) from a recognized University. If you possess the before mentioned qualification then you can appear for any of

  • Joint admission test for MSc (JAM)
  • UGC NET
  • Joint entrance screening test (JEST)

The top institutes offering PhD in biology science in India are

  1. Indian Institute of science, Bangalore
  2. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi
  3. University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad
  4. Manipal Academy of higher education
  5. Bharathiar university, Coimbatore

Hope this helps and Good luck

See if you want to go for research in biology via Basic sciences then you don't need to qualify NEET. You have to admission in BSc course then MSc and then PhD which will be the research phase for your career. Now if you want to go for Medical then go for NEET. After MBBS then you have to go for MD. In MD you will get little scope and after that you can move towards PhD. Thus depending on the parameter you have to choose the way.

When you reach the level of PhD most of the fields mix with each other. For clinical Microbiology and for Pure Microbiology both the researchers work on same problems. Thus you have two different ways to reach your goal with two different experiences.

If you go for Medical field and then to research then you will have to invest more time i.e., 5.5 years+3years+5years = 13.5 years of study you have to afford if you want to go via medical way. But you will get the clinical exposure, you will know the clinical fields these are your incentives. But if you go through basic field then you will have to invest 10 years of time for PhD after which you can be a great researcher. So depending on your interest you have to go for it.
