Hello Ashu,

It is a difficult journey to becoming a space scientist, but it is definitely worth it. If you are passionate to become a space scientist, just accept what you need to do and go for it. There is nothing better than accomplishing your goal.

To become a space scientist, one should possess relevant education in pure science or engineering disciplines.

After 10th, you need to pursue science as a streaam, i.e. opt for PCM.

After completing schooling, there are two modes through which you can join ISRO as Scientist or Engineer:

  1. You need to appear for IIST examination( Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Trivandrum).  IIST graduates above a certain pass percentage cut off in final B.Tech exam are directly absorbed in ISRO system as Scientist/Engineer -SC grade.
  2. One can also join ISRO after completing B.Tech.You have to appear for ISRO centralised recruitment. The advertisement for this is often published in national newspapers.

The eligibilty criteria for ISRO recuitment is as follows:

  • Candidates must have passed BE/B.Tech or equivalent qualification in first class with an aggregate minimum of 65% marks or CGPA 6.84/10. ISRO is strict about the CGPA or marks and doesn’t consider anything less than the given criteria. The average of all semesters will be considered for the purpose of CGPA and not one single semester.
  • Candidates who are in their final year are also eligible to apply, provided their final degree is available by July 31 and their aggregate is 65% marks or CGPA 6.84/10.
  • Candidate with Diploma +B. E / B. Tech (Lateral Entry) are also eligible provided they have passed their degree in first class with an aggregate minimum of 65% marks or CGPA 6.84/10
  • AMIE candidates will be regulated as per MHRD order No. 11-15-2011-AR (TS.II) dated 06.12.2012. Students registered before May 31, 2013 may be considered provided they should have 65% marks or CGPA 6.84 in Section ‘B’ alone. However, AMIE candidates wishing to apply must check if they are eligible before applying.
  • Candidates who have passed M.E/M.Tech with B.Tech are eligible to apply provided their B.Tech marks meet the eligibility specified above..
  • Candidates who have studied Integrated course of B.E/B.Tech and M.E/M.Tech are also eligible subject to production of Graduation certificate for B.E/B.Tech separately in first class with an aggregate minimum of 65% marks or CGPA 6.84/10.
  • Candidates with part time B.E/B.Tech degree are eligible. However, candidates who have done their B.E or B.Tech through correspondence course not eligible.

Hope this information helps you.

You can also check the official website of ISRO for detailed info.
