Pharmacy has a great career prospect for future. The demand of Pharma graduates are quite high in the sectors of healthcare, research, manufacturing, pharmacovigilance, medical marketing etc. From their involvement in research and development of new therapeutics to their role in ensuring its manufacturing quality control, there is a growing demand for new age job roles such as big data analyst, drugs inspector, hospital pharmacist, drugs controller, computational pharmacist, life-cycle and healthcare management scientist etc. You can take up any of them or you can also generate self employment by setting up a pharmaceutical drug store of your own as a Pharmacist, for which you will need a medical license. A pharmacist is like a bridging gap between a doctor and a patient. You can also work as a Medical representative, Junior Lecturer or Marketing Professional.
In this new era where pharmacy has become a technology-driven sector, a candidate needs to have computational and management skills in addition to the core technical knowledge. You can also pursue Ph.D. after M.Pharm. to work as a Pharmaceutical Scientist to discover and formulate new drugs.
In this field, you will find a wide variety of job opportunities, particularly in hospital and retail industries. You'll also be compensated well in this career as high paid jobs are offered in this sector, usually with salaries above six figures in near future. With the development of Telepharmacy, you might also have the option to work from home.
As a pharmacist, you'll be able to assist in saving lives and curing illnesses, that means you'll be serving for a noble cause. Also, job stability is impressively high within this profession and you'll be always needed in the community you serve.
Additionally, this field will also provide you an opportunity to work for industries and branches of applied chemistry.
Some disadvantages include exclusively long working hours with rare holidays, extensive education and long years of training requirement, high competition within the sector, relatively few opportunities for advancement and multiple job roles. Being a pharmacist also requires constant concentration while giving the right dosages and correct medicines. So, you will be responsible for multiple layers of safety.
Every career has its own pros and cons. Make a right decision keeping in mind what will work for you in the long run.
I hope this answer will help you.
