Hello

The course MSW - Masters in Social Work in itself is a very rich course. This course provides one with knowledge about the theory and practical aspect of social work. Both these aspects are very important to understand the concept of social work. Both Loyola College and Madras School of Social Work provide a very rich curriculum for this degree.

Madras School of Social Work is a better option for this course. This institution is in Chennai and provides very good infrastructure and many opportunities.

Overall, the syllabus offered by the Madras School of Social Work is more vast. Madras School of Social Work has more focus on practical knowledge and experience rather than theoretical information. The third and fourth semesters of MSW in Madras School of Social Work are focused more on internships . There are components of fieldwork - internship and summer placement. The institution itself helps the students with the internships. Comparatively, Loyola College has a less intense fieldwork component as part of the grade.

Both the institutions provide specializations , Loyola College offers specializations in both third and fourth semester whereas Madras School of Social Work provides specialization in second semester itself. The course of Madras School of Social Work is designed in such a way that core subjects and inter-disciplinary subjects provide a wholesome understanding of Social Work. The course is not Sociology oriented, it is rather Social Work oriented with papers of Psychology and Economics also.

Madras School of Social Work also has a compulsory Soft-Skills Training component wherein the student has to focus on her soft skills. This is a good component as it increases the employability and also refines the personality. Loyola College has associations wherein one can join those associations and learn skills.

The course in Madras School of Social Work is divided into two shifts where one shift is aided and one shift is self-financed. Such a feature is not there in Loyola College.

The placements of Madras School of Social Work are also applauded. Organizations such as Tata Motors, Altius, Reddy Group have come for placements in the previous years. Many students are also placed in organizations wherein they completed their internship.

For admissions, the criteria for both institutions is roughly the same. The student needs to apply either online or offline for the course and pay the required fee for the form. There is an entrance test. The students that clear the test are called for group discussion and personal interview. The selected students are then given the seats. There are certain reservation quotas as well. This process generally starts around May and finishes around June-July.

Overall, both institutions are good. If one puts hard work then one can shine anywhere.

I hope you get admission in the institute you like.

Please ask if you have any further queries.

Hey Ranjith!

The best college for doing masters in social work in South India is MSW - The madras school of Social Work. Loyola might be good but MSW is better. However, it would be best if you could contact the students in the colleges directly.

Hope this helps! All the best.
