Every branch of engineering has equal scope and interesting subjects which are of immense importance for the research and development as well as technological applications for mankind. However, As far as Civil Engineering is concerned, you may have less prospects if you plan to go into Industry after Graduation. You do have companies like Tata Projects, L&T and of course the PSU Sector, with most of the Enterprises opening positions for Civil and Mechanical Graduates.
I would suggest you to go for Masters in Structural, Transportation or Construction Engineering from higher technical institutes like Top IITs and IISc Bangalore for better career scope and prospects.
You may even plan a Postgraduate in Project Management or Construction Management, from Institutions like NICMAR Pune.
However, if you are getting branches like CSE, ECE, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering, you should prefer them before Civil.

Hi Aspirant,
No course is bad. Each one is good in their own perspective fields. However placements in certain field is low due to the less number of works and growing number of engineers. In the advancement of modern world technologies of advancing computer and new age revolutionary ideas it is quite obvious that the placements of IT and CS is far greater and better. So yes civil engineering has less jobs but yes there are scopes also. But if you study cs or it engineering then you can get easy placements without any hurdles.
Hope it helps!!

Civil Engineering is one of the most vital courses. Although it is getting underrated due to some issues. The reason for which Civil Engineering is underrated is due to its low salary packages compared to other fields of engineering. But civil engineering demands experience. The more experienced you are, the value will be the more. So gaining of skills is important. Also unlike other engineering fields, Civil gives you a way to start your own practice. You can become an independent planner and can work as a professional.
So civil engineering is just great if you are interested, motivated and you have the ability to gain skills, knowledge & experience.
I hope my answer helps you. All the very best for your future endeavors!
