You need to be Karnataka domicile to be eligible to kcet. So this means you should be born in Karnataka . You should have atleast 7 years of schooling in Karnataka. Or your parents should be born in Karnataka. If you satisfy any of these criteria you will be eligible to give kcet

Hello

Yes , you can write the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) if you meet certain eligibility criteria , even if your domicile is from Maharashtra and your caste certificate is from Tamil Nadu . Since you have been studying in Karnataka since the 7th grade, you may qualify under the educational eligibility criteria. Here's Eligibility for KCET:

1. Educational Criteria:

Candidates must have studied in a recognized institution in Karnataka for at least 7 academic years starting from 1st standard to the qualifying examination (12th grade).

Since you started studying in Karnataka from 7th grade , you have completed 6 years in Karnataka by 12th (2025) . This may not fulfill the 7 year requirement unless you studied in Karnataka before 7th grade .

2. Domicile Criteria:

To be considered under the Karnataka category, you or your parents should have a Karnataka domicile or your parents must have resided in Karnataka for at least 7 years.

3. Category Certificate:

If you belong to the SC category, you must provide a valid caste certificate issued by Karnataka. Since your caste certificate is from Tamil Nadu, it may not be considered valid for claiming reservation in KCET. However, you can appear as a general merit candidate without claiming the SC quota.

Hello Amulya,

Yes, you are eligible to write the KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test) as you meet the residency requirement, having studied in Karnataka since the 7th standard. However, you must fulfill the following conditions:

Key Requirements for KCET:

  1. Study Requirement : You should have studied in Karnataka for a minimum of 7 academic years from 1st to 12th grade, which includes your current education till the 12th standard.

  2. Qualifying Exam : You need to pass your 12th board exams (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology as your core subjects, meeting the minimum marks criteria.

  3. Kannada Language Test : If you are applying under the Horanadu/Gadinadu Kannadiga category, you might need to appear for a Kannada language test.

    What You Might Lack:

If you cannot write KCET, it could be due to:

  1. Residency Period : If your study period in Karnataka does not total 7 years before the 12th standard, you may not meet the eligibility criteria.

  2. Domicile Certificate : Ensure you or your parents possess a valid domicile certificate of Karnataka, as it is mandatory for state quota seats.

  3. Incorrect Documentation : Ensure all required documents (such as study certificates from schools attended in Karnataka) are complete and accurate.

If you fulfill the above conditions, you are fully eligible for KCET 2025. Check the official KCET notification when released for detailed instructions and requirements.

Hi,

If your studying from 7 th standard in karnataka you may identified as a local candidate which means you have karnataka address in your government issued id like aadhar etc.. if this is the case your eligible to write KCET. with educational  qualifications. other wise you identified as non-local candidate. which means  you have been living in any other state and  just came to study in karnataka.in this case you are  not eligible or you may allowed to write KCET. In such cases you may face some restriction in seat allocations. so i  suggest you to check your residency
