I will give you some general way of pursing your dream.  Firstly take maths in your 12th Std it will help you. Then prepare for JEE exam or any other institutional exam if there and in order to get IIT score good marks in JEE and opt for Btech degree and then you will surely pursue your dream and have good placements too. You can also do Bsc course but Btech is more valuable than bsc. All the best to you.

This question arises in many students mind these days especially when people have to make a choice between Engineering branches and medical stream.

If you have decided to do Software engineering after 12th then first of all you need to prepare for JEE MAINS and ADVANCED exams. If you are currently in 10th class then you need to select some best Coaching institutes in your region, appear in their scholarship exams and enroll in two year programme. Some of them are FIITJEE, BROTHERS ACADEMY, ALLEN, and many others. Many students who cannot qualify JEE in first attempt, drop one year to study and then appear again.

So it depends on how much time you spend and how much motivated you are towards your goal. You have to constantly put efforts on the questions that are asked in Advance examination because they are quite tough.

If you want to pursue engineering and you want to become software engineer then and you should do BTech computer science aur engineering in the related field. You should at least have a bachelor degree to begin your career as software engineering. If you will go for the higher studies in in in computer science which is M tech computer science that will offer you most useful background of designing software but that is optional just after doing BTech computer science u can be a software engineer in a good form. As you said you want to pursue BTech in it should a student you must prepare for JEE  exam and you must qualified JEE advanced in order to get admission in the prestigious IIT in India.
