Hello,

See in order to secure IPS Service your friend need to appear for UPSC Civil Service Exam and obtain the required rank against his/her respective category, now there is no such restrictions in terms of belonging to specific stream when it comes to appearing for UPSC, if you go through the eligibility criteria laid out by UPSC it simply demands candidates to pass bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university, and there is not even requirement of specific aggregate in this case, candidates can also appear in the final year  of graduation on provisional basis, now coming to your question, see irrespective of the stream you have at 10+2 or graduation level, UPSC exam is all about single-minded focus, dedication and perseverance. and it remains the same for every aspirant who qualify this exam, yes the only thing with humanities students are that they are well acquainted with the syllabus as in they study the humanities subjects which are part of UPSC syllabus at 10+2 level as well as graduation, but if this was only the reason to qualify UPSC then candidates from engineering, medical, commerce, science wouldn't have even qualified UPSC at any point of time, if you go through previous year toppers list they come from diverse background, now if your friend should choose subjects or field in which she is interested, and this is a very big decision because that's going to impact her future, if your friend have inclination for bio group then she should go ahead with this stream, there is no need to go for MPC after 12th .she can explore many options also, also it's good to have a back up plan for UPSC if the candidates isn't absolutely sure as of now which is pretty common thing, and even if she chooses to do graduation in humanities stream after 10+2 science she can always change the stream, there is no problem in that, but most important remember to pursue a career in which her interest lies, as I said UPSC tends to be unpredictable and over the years it has become highly competitive, so it's good to have a back up plan as per her inclination for specific subject combinations/stream/course.
