Hi Mohan!

Greetings!

Let us discuss the pros and cons of both :

The advantages of studying in a hostel are as follows:

  • Students get self reliant and learns to look after himself or herself from an early age
  • They get responsible as they have only themselves to bank on.
  • They form strong team of study mates and exchange informations and ideas.
  • They become adept in handling unfavourable situations .

The advantages of Home study:

  • The proximity of family enhances the emotional balance
  • The nourishment in form of food comes easy when you are studying from home
  • The access to different mediums of information become much more handy while staying at home
  • Freedom and comfort are much more while studying from home.

The disadvantages a student may face studying at hostel are manifold:

  • They lack the warmth of having the family around.
  • They miss out on conducive study environment.
  • In absence of a good hostel coordinator a student may suffer from ill access to various mediums of information.
  • Not much freedom to study at one’s whims and fancies.

The disadvantages of home study:

  • The students get too much dependent on the family members for comfort and other amenities.
  • They tend to take life easily.

Thus we need to strike a balance and it is basically dependent on the calibre and sincerity of student.

If the student is sincere enough, no matter from where he is studying, he is bound to do well!

So its all upon you, if you think that you are sincere enough for preparing for IIT and will distract from your target in the absence of your parents, then go to hostel.

If you know about yourself,  and have good coaching near your home then stay at home.

Please upvote if this was helpful to you.

Thank you and good luck.

Hi Mohan,

if by hostel coaching you mean taking coaching while living away from home in a hostel, then there are two sides of the coin:

PROS: Living near to a coaching shall save your precious time of commute. Also, in a hostel room, esp. in a single room, there won't be anyone to disturb you. As long as you have self control and discipline, you will be able to make the most of your time. Since you're willing to leave home, you'd better join a coaching in Kota, where the quality of teaching is very high, compared to rest of India(roughly speaking).

CONS: You may face problems of sub standard food quality. Also, few people face homesickness and aren't able to study as much as needed in the initial few months. There will be no one to ask you to study, so it is very easy to slip and fall behind the class. In short, you alone wil be incharge of yourself, and that includes taking care of yourself when you're ill, physically or emotionally.

Feel free to comment if any doubt.

Hope this answer helps you out. Thank you.

Hello Mohan,

It's totally upto you, where you are most comfortable. At home you are under supervision of your parents. Whereas in hostel you have to manage all things by yourself.

So it ia your decision where to stay.

Good luck
