How a student prepare for GD PI and WHAT. Plse advise.
For student to prepare gdpi, what he can do is :
GD and WAT tips:
For the GD and the WAT, one needs to prepare General Awareness. During an interview round too, questions can also be expected from the current affairs. A future manager should be well informed about the issues of the day and should have logical and mature opinions about the sameRead good magazines and newspapers to keep yourself abreast of major issues facing your city, state, country and the world. You can be expected to write about abstract topics too. Practising GD with a group of students and writing practice can help you improve in this area.
Interview tips:
The interview will check your personality, which is the main ability to be a manager. Prepare your academic subjects of graduation, since good understanding of these subjects indicate your strength as a student. This would further sharpens up your ability to work hard on diverse academic areas for the two rigorous years at the IIMs. Pick up at least 2-3 subjects from the core areas of your study to prepare in depthQuestions can be from the basics of your subject or from the application of the same. Questions can also check the co-relation of your subjects to the current awareness of the world. You should also prepare your projects and internships, since they are an indication of the sameSometimes the interview panel wants to discuss your hobbies or interests. This helps them check whether you possess an all-round personality or not. Checking your interests helps them in understanding how passionate you arePreparation for the interview should be started as early as possible. Give at least 2-3 mock interviews to an experienced and senior panel of people who can assess your preparation and provide feedback on the same. After each mock interview, evaluate yourself and see where you can improve. Work accordingly and only when you feel that enough preparation has been done, go for another round of interview. Taking too many or too less number of interviews is equally incorrect.
Best of luck!
Cheers !!
Reading the newspaper every day and being updated with the current affairs is essential as most of the GD topics are picked up from news and updates from the business sector. The more you need the broader your vision and understanding of issues will become.
Make it a point to speak in English and enhance your vocal skills so that you dont feel hesitant while speaking on the final day. It will also enhance your ability to express.
You can practice GD with your seniors, fellow applicants or friends who had appeared or will be appearing for GD. there are various coaching institutes that take GD sessions where you can hone your skills for group discussion.
Good Luck!
*For GD: be well versed with what is happening around you. Newspapers and magazines like Front line will be of great help. If possible try to finish off the cover pages of frontline or any such similar magazine of past 5-6 months. One or two articles will be sufficient till your date comes. This will not only enhance your knowledge but also help you in forming your view points.
GD can be any topic:Abstract or current affairs or even a short case based. Burning topics like GST, its impact, mergers and acquisitions, environmental topics, WTO meet in Buenos Aires, etc.
*For WAT: Some institutes, give half a page or one page case and then ask questions pertaining to your understanding of the case. For this you need to know little background of the case in order to answer the questions logically. For example last time, in some institutes case pertaining to medical science was given, so try not to limit yourself. Try to know a little about every field of study.
Some institutes give a one- liner topic and ask your views regarding it. Try to sound neutral, logical and confident while attempting your stand. Topics like: "what actions must be taken to protect wildlife", " What would you prefer: politics of incumbency or out of the scratch".
Some institutes host a GD and then ask you to write your analysis of the topic and the GD. Here is a caution: go as per the teacher says i.e., if he says to write the summary then write only the summary of the discussion not your view points solely and if he asks to write about the topic first then begin the GD, then write your view points.
*PI: you must very well know what subjects you have been taught during your graduation, what are the basics of those subjects, they might pick any subject and start asking questions pertaining to it. Remember they are always more prepared than we are.
The entire interview might even revolve completely around your hobbies and passion.
You will be asked to fill a form before your GD-PI process, a lot of questions are asked from it. In fact, the entire interview can be run around that single sheet. That sheet will contain basic information like your achievements in the past (academic, extracurricular, etc.), your hobbies, etc. Whatever you write in it, should be what you know and how well and deeply you are capable of explaining it to the interviewers.
Basic HR questions like WHY MBA,WHICH FIELD IN MBA(answer the d field only if you know about it otherwise say you don't know but you will learn), WHAT IF NOT MBA, FAILURE/CHALLENGES FACED IN LIFE AND HOW DID YOU OVERCOME,etc.
*Watch YouTube videos of interviews to get basic body posture understanding, if needed.
*current affairs like ministers, sensex, any recent happenings in the world, etc
*if you have work-ex then, anything related to it esp. about Projects
