Same was my situation in 2016. I was unaware of the actual roadmap to follow. And believe me this is the most important phase of the revision.
It is said that a main learns from his failure. so did I. I wasn't able to execute my plans properly after ruining my Mains so landed up on a rank of 26k in 2016 JEE Advanced.(General Category).
I would like to suggest you few thing:
1) As you have cleared JEE mains, that means you must have a clear idea of the concepts. Now you need to brush up those concepts such that you could clear Advanced.
2) Be aware of your strengths.
Basically, mains level questions are concept based and less tough as compared to advanced. So, the main process of movement in mains is cover the syllabus nicely and work on your weakness and take it upto a average level atleast.
But here, Brush up your strong part to make it strongest.
Follow this strategy - Make your Strong points as Strongest Point.
3) Develop your problem solving skills. How to develop it? Take a look on 4th point!!
4) Feel the concepts:
Since you are aware of the basic concepts.
Now,
1) Choose your subject-The strongest subject: (Mine was Chemistry).
2) Don't just focus on basic level questions beacuse you are already aware of it, as you have cleared mains. So set the toughness range for your questions.
3) Now, you are working on tough and multiconceptual questions. So, What i ahve noticed during my preparation is that, every multiconceptual question has a turning point. By this i mean to say, you will come accross a certain part of the question nwhere the main concept lies, the mian trick.
So always analyse that part nicely. and always keep this in mind.
Now One real life incident:
I used the same strategy for my preparation that is to analyse and notice the turning point of the question and keep that puzzling point in mind. By keeping in min i mean to say that,
Suppose you are struck at some point, remembering thre steps or the concept you applies to get out of that puizzling state is what i meant.
So, I followed the same and mad e a note of the turning point puzzles in one 5Rs Notebook.
On my JEE advanced day, I found a question with same logic( turning point). But the thing is, in my practice times i found out that logic or turning point in the chapter of Chemical Kinetics( P. Bahadur) and in advanced paper the same logic was to be applied to a question of Chemical Equilibrium.
So, In a nutshell, ALways be aware of what you are solving. and if you do the same during your practice now then this would help you in the development of you problem solving abilities.
And the last point I would like to make is:
Always make your strong subject strongest. But don't leave other subjects weak, because there is a minimum cutoff for all the subjects.and not even subjects, but make your strong chapters strongest be it of any subject.
And following the same above process, i cracked JEE Advanced but couldnot score a rank to get into IITs.
And its useless to discuss the pattern over here of advanced or the important chapters. because there is no surity that the pattern will remain the same in your time.
So All The best!
