NRI students have 2 options to secure a seat at the NITs or IIITs.
- JEE Mains - Writing the exam along with all the students from India hence competing against the countrys best minds. This enables you to be considered a non-NRI under the admissions department which allows you to pay the local fees like any other Indian student.
- DASA - Writing the SAT Subject Tests (Physics, Chemistry and Math Level 2) and scoring above 1800 overall paves a path for your admission into most NITs. For top NITs like NITT, NITW and NITK etc. you would require an overall of at least 2000 to get accepted (requisites are obviously higher for core branches). The only downside of this option is the fees which is many times the cost that a student who cleared the JEE Mains has to pay. This is ultimately the cost you pay to get into the NITs with much less effort than the JEE (not to say that the SAT-2 isnt challenging).
