Hello,

For most medical schools in the US, candidates need to have a bachelor's qualification prior to application as well as test scores from MCAT . Therefore, in order to study medicine, you could either pursue a bachlor's in the US or MBBS in India in order to be eligible to give the MCAT exam. After completion of the preliminary program, your MCAT scores will determine your admission to any of the top medical schools.

The best medical schools in USA are:

  • Harvard University (World rank: 1)
  • Stanford University (World rank: 4)
  • Johns Hopkins University (World rank: 5)
  • University of California, Los Angeles (World rank: 7)
  • Yale University (World rank: 8)
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology (World rank: 9)

Hey!

There is some standard exams that you have to appear for if you want to  study medicine abroad. There is Standard Aptitude Test,  where you need to score above 1200+ (out of 1600) to be apply to the top Universities across USA and all other places that accepts this score. Then you have to individually apply to all the colleges along with various essays as would be given in their application form. In many other countries like Russia and Ukraine you can directly take admission on the basis of your Neet score with/without donation and minimum fees. Hope it helps.

With your 12th, you cannot study Medicine in the US. You need a basic Degree of B.Sc and need to clear the Medical College Admission Test to be eligible for admissions in the U.S. In the US, medical school is postgraduation (remember you have already done BSc) and hence after passing board exams, you are called an MD. Secondly, residency (i.e. speciality training including family medicine, ophthalmology, internal medicine, pediatrics, orthopedics etc.) is mandatory to practice medicine in the USA. You cannot directly enter into medical practice as MD straight out of medical school without residency training (residency in US = post graduation in India). In other words, there are no general practitioners (i.e. only MBBS) in the USA. And there is NO MBBS in the USA
