To start preparing for CLAT, you must make a proper study schedule which you'll follow throughout the preparation. Then go through the entire syllabus of Clat. You haven't mentioned if you are applying for CLAT UG or PG, so I'm mentioning entire syllabus of both Ug and Pg. Clat UG- Total 150 questions are asked.

English with comprehension, Phrases. - almost 28 to 32 questions from English section.

General Knowledge & Current Affairs - International Affairs, Historical events- 35 to 39 questions from this section.

Quantitative Techniques - basic mathematics of till class 10, Graphs, basic algebra- 13 to 17 questions.

Logical Reasoning- 28 to 32 questions from here.

Legal Reasoning- 35 to 39 questions.

Each question carries one mark. 0.25 marks will be deducted for wrong response. MCQ type questions will be asked.

Clat PG-
Law of Contracts; International Law; Criminal Law includes labour and industrial law, Public international law, Company law; Intellectual Property Law means Tax Law, Environmental law; Jurisprudence; Law of Torts and Constitutional Law includes Administrative law, family law and property law.
60 questions from Constitutional law and 60 questions from the rest of the syllabus. A total of 120 questions with 1 mark for each question. All questions are objective type. 0.25 marks will be deducted for wrong response.

Choose the best books for your preparation. For CLAT UG- Word Power Made easy by Norman Lewis, for General knowledge - Manorama YearBook or Lucent's General Knowledge, Read newspaper thoroughly for Current affairs, Legal Awareness and Legal Aptitude by AP Bhardwaj for Legal Aptitude, RS Aggarwal's Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

For CLAT PG, many books are there in the market but VN Shukla and JN Pandey are mostly recommended by top educators for Constitutional Law. For Jurisprudence, you can refer to Paranjpe.

Daily revision is a must thing. Try to complete at least one section each day. Once done with the syllabus you can move on to solving previous few years' exam papers and sample appears. Give mock tests on a regular basis. http://law.careers360.com/articles/clat-mock-test
