As far as I know NIOS provides an opportunity to appear in only that paper in which a student has failed in the board exams. So if one has failed in Physics in CBSE, then he can appear in the On-Demand Physics exam of NIOS. The marks of the other passed subjects in board exams will be transferred to the NIOS certificate.
If you want to give Biology exam from NIOS board, then you can register on its website as a private candidate. All the best.
