You can prepare for IAS by following some of the preparation tips-

  1. First, remember that the eligibility criteria is 21 years and graduation (any subject).

  2. Prearrange your time to study. Be thorough with the syllabus of UPSC and go through previous years question papers.

  3. You need to buy the recommended books for your preparation. Here are some of the books you can start with- NCERT books, Indian Polity for Civil Services Examinations by M. Laxmikanth (Polity), Oxford School Atlas by Oxford Publishers. (Geography), Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh. (Economy), India Year Book (Current Affairs), A Brief History of Modern India by Rajiv Ahir (Modern India), General Studies Paper 2 Manual by MHE (CSAT),

  4. Try to go through and clear the mock test series for IAS.

  5. Read and discuss current issues, make the habit of reading newspapers and magazines.

  6. Remember for all the competitive entrance exams the speed of writing matters so make the habit of writing.

  7. After your semester exam is over, during your breaks, utilize your free time and try to finish at least 2 subjects.

  8. Once you finish studying the subjects only, you can concentrate on General Studies. Hope it helps. All the best.

as a first year medical student, better you dont start your preparation now.just try to develop diplomatica attitude and interpersonal skills. And try to have a habit of reading news papers and novels about india.then collect information of IAS syllabus and subjects.this is enough for your first year.

2nd year onwards, watch videos on youtube related to civil service .after a semester, you have to start your actual preparation.prepare 1/2 hour for the this IAS dream daily.dont get distracted towards your surrounding.

all the best!!!

Hi there.

First things first, for becoming an IAS officer one has to write the UPSC examinations that occur in three stages: Preliminary, Mains and Personal Interview.

The Preliminary exams is just for the sake of qualifying to Mains. Your preliminary exam's score won't be considered in the final score. The final score consists of Mains and Personal Interview. Preliminary is an MCQ based exam whereas Mains exam is a full-fledged written exam with an optional subject.

One needs to have a graduation degree in any discipline from any recognized University to be eligible to write the UPSC examinations.

It is advisable to start your preparation from the very first year of graduation. Start with the basic NCERT books of Class VI-XII of History, Geography, Economics, and Science.

Slowly, build momentum and start with Indian Polity book by Lakshmikant. For a proper and full booklist head to Mrunal's blog or Unacademy's website (Roman Saini's lessons).

Develop a habit of reading The Hindu daily to be updated with current affairs. Read the Yojana Magazine regularly.
