Since you are a non-European physiotherapist and want to work in the United Kingdom, you will initially have to apply for HCPC or Health and Care Professions Council. They will research your background and check your educational qualification and your history in academic. They will specifically look at your post-graduate degree. They would lastly ask you your experience as a physiotherapist and an international career in this would help you to have more chances to get selected and your experience as a physiotherapist will, therefore, matter the most at this step. After the interview, they will match it to the UK requirement and check if you are competent enough.
The criteria used to examine this is Standards of Proficiency which are 15 in number and are as follows:
- You should have the ability to conduct a safe and effective within their requirements for practitioners
- You should be aware of your legal and ethical boundaries as a physiotherapist.
- You should be able to maintain your health
- You should be independent in your judgement and be professional
- You should be respectful of culture, equality and diversity and learn about its impacts
- You should be non-discriminatory in your practice
- You should maintain confidentiality and understand its vitality
- Communication should be effective
- You should be willing to work with others
- You should have the skill and ability to maintain records
- You should have the habit of reflection of your practice
- You should be aware of the key concepts involved in your profession
- You should be equipped with knowledge-based skills to inform practice
- You should have the idea of how to establish a safe environment for your clients and practice.
You have to be honest about yourself as HCC looks up your truths and tries to catch where you might not seem authentic. You should keep these standards in mind in your practice so that they shine through your previous experience.
Other than this, you would need a
- certified copy of your qualification certificates
- certified copy of the translation of the qualification certificate if required
- certificate of professional status
- photocopy of an eligible language test certificate in English if English is not your first language, otherwise a declaration of the same.

You will also have to pay a scrutiny payment of 495 pounds!
