How categories are separated in vellore institute of technology
Hello Shree,
The category during the counselling procedure decides your fee structure. Every category has a particular number of seats. It's like when the 1st category fills up, then the counselling for category 2 seats begin and so on..
Note :
- The annual fees for every category is different.
- The higher the category, more is the tution fees.
Categories :
- First 20K rank students are called for 1st Phase counselling and are called MERIT RANK STUDENTS and they have to pay the normal Category 1 fees.
- The rank beyond 20k (20K to 100K) are called for Phase 2 counselling and they have to pay more fees than the normal merit rank students.
- These fees are further divided into 3 categories : Category 2, 3 and 4.
- The fees is like : For category 2 = 2-2.5 Lakhs ; category 3 = 3-3.5 Lakhs ; category 4 = 4-4.5 Lakhs.
Generally, all the seats till Category 4 are filled by 40-50K ranks. But some students ask VIT for their refund as they get their desired result in BITSAT, JEE, MHT-CET etc. And thus, VIT sends a mail to the students who still want to join and couldn't get their seats during the counselling procedure, so that those interested students can become the part of VIT. Some people say that your rank decides the category in VIT, but its not so. The branch you choose and it's availability defines your category.
What VIT does is that, they have certain number of seats reserved in each category of counselling. So if you are not getting a particular branch in a certain category (i.e. The seats are already filled by the time of your turn in the counselling), you could either opt for the same branch in a higher fee category or choose another branch in the same category.
As far as i understand, this is a VIT's way to eliminate the management quota! ;)
Hope this helps!!
Good Luck :)
