Dear Kajal,

English section in CLAT has 3 sections:

Reading comprehension, Vocabulary, Grammar.

1. Reading Comprehension

This section can be scoring if you do substantial practice and improve your reading speed. 5-10 questions based on Reading Comprehension are asked in every CLAT paper under the English section.

While solving such questions, don’t just keep on reading the passage, instead, take a glance at the questions and keep that in mind while reading so that you don’t have to read the passage again and again.

Make sure that you solve at least 1 comprehension-based question per day for thorough preparation and to maintain proper speed in this topic.

2. Vocabulary

The common vocabulary-based questions asked in the English Section are Synonyms, Antonyms, Idioms, Foreign language words, and Spellcheck.

Whether you are good in vocabulary or weak in it, you should start your vocabulary exercise from today itself. You can do that either by reading a book/ newspaper regularly.

It is important to solve quizzes of synonyms, antonyms, and meaning of words because merely memorizing the words won’t be of any help.

3. Grammar

This section is quite tricky since we all have been studying English grammar from 1st  standard but most of the aspirants are still confused as to the correctness of a sentence.

The type of grammar questions asked in CLAT exam is quite common to every other exam i.e. sentence correction, jumbled words, cloze test etc. Looking at the past 5 years CLAT papers, you will see that 5 questions based on prepositions are mostly asked in the CLAT exam. So, you should concentrate on learning the rules of prepositions and solving such exercises.

Hey!

Don't lose your heart if you are scoring low on mock tests. They are mock for a reason. But you need to start preparation in a different way to discontinue that trend. Go to the official website, jot down the syllabus for English, divide the topics and study them one by one from standard books or any book that you are currently reading. Then start solving previous years papers. Soon you will get the hang of the subject.

My best wishes for your future and upcoming exams.

Regards,

Nafisa.
