How do I start career as a Structural Design Engineer after working as site Engineer for 6 months?
Hello,
You have a couple of options:
Start applying in structural engineering firms and work under a structural engineer first . Your career growth curve will depend on couple of things. First is the experience and knowledge of the structural engineer you are working under and two your interest in the field of structural design and analysis. If both the things resonate with each other, you will be a good structural engineer in no time. But you will have to make sure that both the things happen and you continue to read everyday regarding structural engineering.
Get masters in structural engineering. What I have seen so far is, the knowledge of structural dynamics is pretty limited in a student with bachelor's degree as compared to master's degree. So if you go ahead and apply for masters and understand dynamics along with finite element analysis, you will be a good structural engineer. Otherwise what will happen is even if you will learn how to use a software for dynamic analysis, but you will not be able to exactly interpret the results. So it is something like GIGO.
You can go ahead with any of the above two options, then only thing it depends on is the economic situation of your background, your ambition, your interest and dedication.
All The Best.
