How do I start preparing for the NEET UG 2019?
NEET 2024: Cutoff (OBC, SC, ST & General Category)
NEET 2024 Admission Guidance: Personalised | Study Abroad
NEET 2025: Syllabus | Most Scoring concepts | NEET PYQ's (2015-24)
Here are some general tips to get started on your NEET 2019 preparation:
1) Join a reputable coaching institute - They
provide students with well-structured material and exclusive guidance. They hold
mock exams regularly, which increases your motivation and competitive spirit.
They solve any doubts/problems you have and clear any concepts you might have
trouble with. They give advice on how to improve on your weaker areas.
2) Self-study - While coaching is extremely
valuable, self-study is the key to success. Create a study timetable that suits
your habits. If you can study for long hours, go ahead. If not, break up your
study sessions with short breaks to refresh you. It is imperative that you
first sit and study the material thoroughly, to have a good knowledge base and
understand concepts. Try to solve as many questions as possible after studying
a certain topic. It's easier to complete the more time-consuming or important
topics first, and then leave the easier or less important topics for later.
Don't leave any topics.
3) Use the right materials - Do not buy too many books or use too many resources, use the ones that you find the easiest to understand (especially the NCERT textbooks).
4) Regular revision - Set time aside to revise
whatever you have studied. Learning without revision is futile. Revision
reinforces your understanding, sharpens memory and clears concepts thus making
it easier to get more questions right.
In the beginning of your preparation, focus more on concept-building rather than assessment/test-taking. Take your time, go through all the important topics for NEET and understand everything. Practice numerous physics and chemistry problems, and keep revising biology. Use this time to build a strong foundation of fundamental knowledge. This will help you when you move forward with your preparation. The next part of your preparation involves practice questions/MCQs or test-taking. The following tips will help you as you progress with your preparation:
5) Mock exams - Practice tests and mock exams
give an idea of where you stand in terms of your preparation, what your
strengths and weaknesses are. It also betters your speed and hones time
management skills. Repeatedly doing mock exams will accustom you to the rigor
and pressure of the actual exam, thereby increasing your confidence and ease in
the real exam. Also solve plenty of past NEET papers, this is very important.
6) Don't use guesswork - Guesswork is more
risky than leaving the question since there is negative marking. Attempt the
questions you're sure of. You will be able to attempt more questions correctly
with a lot of practice and effective studying.
Remember this throughout your preparation:
- Take time off - It is important to balance your studying with breaks so that you do not burn out. Indulge in a hobby to keep you relaxed and refreshed to start another study session. Know your distractions and avoid them at all costs. They will waste time, which is scarce at this point. Get adequate sleep every night. Don't sleep during your study time and don't study during your sleep time.
- Passion, not pressure - Be passionate and motivated towards your studies. Do not get overwhelmed, stay focused on your dream and align your schedule to meet your goal. Never be overconfident, neither should you feel unmotivated or under too much pressure to function. Eat well, sleep well and study well. Most importantly, never forget your dream even in the most difficult moments!
Good Luck with your preparation!
In order to prepare for NEET 2019 ,first you need to get familiar with the question trends in recent exams. After that start reading from NCERT textbooks and at the same time solve mcqs from Arihant / Dinesh publication. If you can afford get admitted to a coaching institution for mock tests (and review classes if you need). Finally be calm on the day of exam and be confident during your exam.
Best of luck!!
