It all depends on college to college. The IIMs and some other institute put a lot of weightage on past academic scores. While there are several other colleges like FMS, NITIE, MDI - to name a few which have very little to no weightage on past academic scores. Hope this helps!
Hi Satyajeet,
Marks in X, XII and Graduation play a significant role in the admission process at IIMs. Although the weightage given to the academic scores is not very high, they are certainly there in the final merit list which decide the final admissions. Different IIMs assign different weightage to this factor. For example, IIM Bangalore has given 10 points for graduation marks, 10 for class X marks and 5 points for class XII for the academic year 2018-20.
Here is how the usual admission process goes at IIMs:
1. Shortlisting based on CAT scor es
2. Selection Rounds – Group Discussion/Written Ability Test and Personal Interview
3. Preparation of final merit lis t
4. Admission off ers
