Dear Aspirant,

You must be aware that Company Secretary (CS) is one of the most pivotal posts in a company with the CS acting as a conscience seeker of the company who is hired to handle the legal aspects of a firm.  With CS comes a big responsibility of handing the  company’s tax returns, keeping records, advising board of directors and making sure that the company's proceedings is in adherence with the legal regulations.

In India, The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, constituted under Company Secretaries Act, 1980, is  the only government recognized body which produces Company Secretaries in India.

There are three levels where you may choose to enrol in the course.

  • Foundation Programme

  • Executive Programme

  • Professional Programme

Once you clear the final level, the Professional Programme, you would be required to go through four months of mandatory training.

To prepare for the exam, it is advised to go to an Institute, however if you are a confident independent learner you may choose to do self study.

Here are a few tips for self study:

Tip 1:  Prepare according to the Company Secretary Exam Pattern

Knowing the syllabus and the examination pattern well is a key stepping stone towards success for any student.

Tip 2: Device a concrete study plan.

Cover all the topics for the CS exam. Make sure you reach to the depth of the concepts as the CS paper has many application based questions.

Tip 3: Prepare With Best CS Study Materials

Depending on which level you are in, get good study material .

Tip 4: Solve More CS Practice Papers

Try to solve more objective papers every day. It will help you to know the pattern of the question paper. It will also boost your speed and even help you to develop time management skill.

You will find many Institutes who will have a full program to coach you for the exam depending on the level you are preparing for. For example :  Resonance classes, J.K Shah Classes,Ace Tutorials,Sangeet Kedia,E Ten . These institutes will know the trick to the trends of the examinations and also will know many tricks that they pass on to the student. Hence, it is highly advisable to enrol in the courses based on your level and locality.

Hope this helps. All the best!
