Hello,
Yes it will be good if you do mtech from iist.The institute strives to provide an excellent academic environment, with good infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities, and thus attract people with outstanding academic record to join the faculty.
The institute also has many non-academic personnel in technical and administrative capacities, who ensure its smooth functioning.
As far as placement is concerned then let me tell you that the records are very nice there.You will easily get placed if you maintain good cgpa.

Yes there are plenty of opportunities if students are ready to search and apply. Faculties of IIST are as good as IITs in most cases. Most of the labs are equipped and there is a healthy competitive atmosphere among faculties to publish. This is a good sign as far as research is concerned.
