So this makes some sense and hence journalism as a career is a good choice then.

This is basically a 3-year course for undergraduates.All you need to have for the course is general knowledge about current affairs, good writing skills, good speaking skills, and you must be a good orator.These things not only make you look different from the crowd but also work for your grades during the course.

One must not go for the course if he/she does not have a personal interest. One must go for journalism only if he/she has a keen interest in current affairs,writing, and public speaking.

The basic course includes BJMC,that is, Bachelor’s in journalism and mass communication. The topmost institution for journalism is IIMC,Indian Institute of Mass Communication.There are a number of colleges offering this course,including DU,IPU,etc.

Journalism has a lot of career options. Be it in electronic or print media at the first place,once can also go for the NIC(National Informatics Centre). It is the premier science & technology organisation of Union Government of India in informatics services and information and communication technology (ICT) applications.

Next to this one can go for IIS (Indian Information Service), a prestigious job which includes

• Managing government's print media, electronic media, advertising agency, Union Ministers (news desk),act as press advisors

• Constitute a press party

• Organise press conferences

• Control official media

There is another option for State Information Services and I&PRD(Information and Public Relations Department).

Some more professions include Web Content Creator,Producer,Editor,News Anchor,TV Correspondent,Radio Jockey,Critic,Columnist,Feature Writer.

One can go for post graduation in the field as well,that is,Masters in Journalism.

The eligibility criteria for undergraduates and post graduates are different for obvious reasons.

For Undergraduate Courses one  can apply for journalism courses after  having passed class 12 with a minimum of 50% marks from any stream (Science, Commerce or Arts).Some colleges require you to possess excellent communication skills, orating skills,English speaking skills and writing skills.Admissions are done either on the basis of class 12 marks or on the basis of entrance tests (varies from university to university). Some colleges also take personal interviews to shortlist students.

For Postgraduate Journalism Courses one  must have a valid undergraduate degree of a duration of 3 / 4 / 5 Years, procured from a recognised university or educational institution.Candidates from all streams and disciplines are eligible to pursue the PG journalism courses offered by journalism institutions in India.Candidates may be required to have appeared for an entrance test conducted by the college/university offering the course.

Admissions to the different institutions are based on different criterias,first one being Merit based and the next one being Entrance exam based.
