The career of travel journalism is good and is on the rise, its interesting and beneficial if you are ready to work hard. You are not enclosed within a cubicle room rather you get the opportunity to travel various places.

You can pursue travel journalist  by choosing the right course to study at top colleges/universities, it will subsequently open doors for various streams.

Most effective way to gain experience in internship, degree itself won't matter much, but experience does. So try focusing on getting internship and gain as much experience as possible .
