In order to apply to an institute abroad you will have to give internationally recognised exams like GRE, IELTS, TOEFL and GMAT. However, for management the main examinations you will need to give is GMAT and TOEFL/IELTS.
What is GMAT?
- Graduate Management Admission Test is a computer adaptive test which tests you in the areas of writing, quantitative, verbal and reading skills.
- This is a prelimnary exam in order to get admitted in prgrammes like MBA and other related courses.
- The difficulty of each question increases in the exam based on the answers given to previous questions.
- The score of the exam ranges from 200-800,
- It costs around INR 16000.
- The examination lasts for 3.5 hours where analytical writing is for 30 minutes, integrated reasoning is for 30 minutes, quantitative reasoning is for 62 minutes and verbal reasoning is for 65 minutes.
GMAT Structure:
The sections in the exam are:
- Analytical Writing: tests the canditates in his ability to think critically and express ideas. This section comprises of two writing tests, analysis of an argument and analysis of an issue
- Integrated Reasoning: tests the candidate's ability to analyze data presented in multiple formats. This section comprises of 12 questions.
- Quantitative Reasoning: tests the canditate's ability to draw conclusions using reasoning from the data presented. This section comprises of 31 questions.
- Verbal Reasoning: tests the canditate's ability to comprehend written material, to judge arguments and correct written material based on the standards of English language. This section comprises of 36 question.
Examinations for testing English:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for countries like USA and Canada.
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for countries like UK, Australia and New Zealand.
- The Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) and The Certificate of Proficience in English (CPE) for countries like UK.
These examinations test you in the parameter of reading, writing, speaking and listening in the English language.
In UK you will have to apply to the universities you choose through the UKPASS and then individually apply to each university from their online website portal. You will need to upload scanned copies of certain documents required by the univerities you choose. These documents being your passport, filled masters application form, a personal statement specific to your course, academic qualification, letter of recommendation, TOEFL/IELTS test results.
