Hello Ankan,
You can take science as your major subjects ( Physics, chemistry and mathematics) for your 10+2 education. Then continue your education with a graduation in Physics you can go for the conventional BSc Physics degree or an integrated five year MSc physics course after you can go for a PhD in physics which could also be an integrated course in case you are applying after your Bachelors degree (MSc + PhD).
Best colleges for theoretical physics are given below
HRI, Allahabad
TIFR, Mumbai
International centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS)
IIT, Kanpur
SINP, Kolkata
IIT Kharagpur
IIT Madras
Hope this helps and Good luck
Theoretical Physics is one of the eminent branch of science which is essential to describe the phenomenons of nature and to discover the universal mysteries. Now the pathway for being a theoretical physicist is a long and interesting way.
For being a theoretical physicist you need to study Physics in your UG. After that you can go for MSc program in any universities in Physics or you can go for the Integrated PhD course at International Center for Theoretical Sciences, Bangalore or TIFR Mumbai by cracking the TIFR GS/JEST examination. This is the best place for you which can give you the best exposure in the field. Apart from this you can go for IIT JAM examination and get admitted in MSc at IITs or Integrated PhD at IISc. Now if you get IPhD then after the completion of phD in Theoretical Physics you can call yourself a theoretical physicist. If you get in Msc then after MSc you have to appear for TIFR GS/JEST/NET in order to get into PhD. On succesful completion of PhD you can call yourself Theoretical Physicist.
Some of the eminent fields for Theoretical Physics are:
