Hi there!!
To put all students’ worries to rest, the NTA announced all details and the process it shall be using to normalise the JEE Main 2019 percentile score, calculate ranks and create a merit list.
HOW IS THE PERCENTILE CALCULATED?
A candidate’s percentile score depicts the percentage of candidates who scored equal to or lower than the candidate. For example, if a candidate has scored 87%ile, it means that 87% of the candidates that attempted the examination either scored the same as the candidate or lower.
For each session of JEE Main 2019 January, the raw score of each candidate will be the summation of the marks scored by them in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The highest raw scores will then be assigned a percentile score of 100. Along with a cumulative percentile score for JEE Main 2019 January, separate percentile scores for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics shall be calculated as well.
BREAKING TIES-
In case two (or more) candidates still have the same JEE Main percentile score, the following will be the preference order when it comes to breaking ties:
- Candidates with the maximum percentile score in Mathematics.
- Next, candidates with the maximum percentile score in Physics.
- Next, candidates with the maximum percentile score in Chemistry.
- In case percentile score is still tied, age of candidates will be taken into consideration when finalising JEE Main rank. Candidates who are older shall be given preference.
- If the tie still doesn’t break, candidates shall be awarded the same rank.
PREPARING THE MERIT LIST-
- The percentile score of JEE Main 2019 April shall also be normalised and converted to a JEE Main percentile score in the same way as described above.
- In case a candidate appears for both January and April sessions, the better of the two scores shall be considered for the final JEE Main merit list, rank declaration, counselling, admissions and eligibility for JEE Advanced.
- For JEE Main rank, only the cumulative percentile score (summation of the percentile of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) will be considered.
- In case there are ties in between candidates, they shall be broken using the conditions specified above.
