Chemical Engineering which is called as Mechanical (Spec. in chemical process engineering) is pretty much your normal chemical engineering with a complex name assigned to it, so as to lure companies and improve its placement records.
Well overall, Chemical engineering is a good program and VIT has done its best to make sure everything stays intact however there are a few areas where chemical engineering might fall behind other programs at VIT. Now I ll give you a brief walkthrough of my observations about Chemical engineering at VIT University.
- The program in general is good, it builds upon the basic secondary school level Mathematics and chemistry if you were good in school level math and basic chem then you can score good grades.
- The curriculum is well written so you’ll be comfortable with the course flow.
- If you really liked the program and took it then VIT is going to be an added bonus for you because you can take any number of supplementary courses in addition to your regular courses to make you strong in the subject.
- VIT’s flexible system will make it easier for you to specialise in a particular field in Chemical engineering.
- VIT has good research prospects so you can involve youself with a faculty and start working on a field, this will be helpful for your masters or for placements.
- I have known a few faculty who are doing good work in Chemical engineering if you can work with them you can probably publish a research paper in a good journal.
- in India but countries like US, middle eastern , certain parts of Europe have tons of oppurtunities for a Chemical engineer.
- Placements, the most common complaint Chemical students have is inadequate placements from core companies , you can however get placed in Mechanical based companies if you are good at it.
- Chemical has limited scope in India, either you have to be in the top percentile in your branch or go for an MS if you need to stand out
- Thank you.
