Hii Siddhant;

That's a decision you should make based on the available choices.

As an alumni of the college let me provide you with some vital information regarding the college which will aid you in decision making.

The campus:The campus is built on 94 acres of land and is very spacious, there are sports facilities inside and outside the hostel. While I was doing my MBA there used to be around 1500 - 1600 people ( including both batches first and second year ). But, the campus is big enough and never felt crowded.

The placements:Various companies like TCS, Tata motors, JP Morgan CRISIL and other big names come to the campus for recruitment , some of them offered decent profiles to us many of them offered sales or Operations kind of profile which many people like for a start many people do not. The average salary figure for the 2010 - 12 . Hovered in between 6 which is decent if we consider that around 750 students were placed . Averagely B-Schools have 100 - 150 students in a batch. That's like placing 5-7 batches.

The top 100 to 150 placements are good, and these students have an average package above 8 I suppose . So, you have to reach there, anyhow somehow.

The teaching methodology:Till my time it used to be completely case study based. The students were supposed to read the case studies and also the textbook concepts to be used in it 'on their own'. 70 students of a section would then discuss the case study for 60 - 70 minutes and would get grades based on that. Yes, that means teachers do not normally teach (even if they want to ), but, are just supposed to direct the discussion towards the right answers.

The flip side: Grading of class participation generates controversy many times, which is already so subjective that probably it is impossible to appease everyone. which means students, sometimes, lose trust on the faculty and his abilities. It also results in a lot of students leaving the college with 'not upto the mark' knowledge of concepts.

The good side: People who followed this system rigorously wer industry ready, had commendable knowledge and doing much better than expectations in the industry. I hear they have altered it a little bit after industry feedbacks and there less case studies now and teachers have been asked/allowed to teach the concepts now in half the classes in the rest the case studies are discussed. You will have to confirm this.

The infrastructure:It's un-debtably good. The library is great. The faculties are almost all PHDs or in the process of completing it. The IT resources and etc etc etc. Everything is in place and present in abundance.

The rankings:IBS has been ranked between 7 (by economic times) to 40ish, and everything in between. I presume the huge difference in rankings is due to the methodolgy adopted by different agencies. Wherever infrastructure has a score , IBS generally is ranked better. In my opinion it is definitely amongst top 30 colleges.

The club culture:There are around 30 clubs in IBS Hyderabad, each organizes it's own events and every festival is celebrated in the campus. Clubs give you an edge as they impart some skills that the course structure can-not.

Hostels and Mess:Well managed and good.

The flip-side of high population:You compete against too many people for placements. The level of class discussions generally comes down because people get paranoid and feel lost between 70 people, so, start speaking shit.

The positives of high population:It's fun to be around so many people. You get to learn so many things and there is nowhere you can network with so many people , which will help a lot in the career and life ahead. Wherever you go you will keep hitting on batch mates, seniors or juniors. My batch had people from 26 out of 28 states in India. And, yes 900 people in a batch is a lot of competition, but, that's just a snapshot of the real world.

Greetings!

If you have not worked hard yesterday you have to pay it all today or tomorrow , there is no short cut. Same is the thing with IBS Hyderabad. With a total strength of 1108 in a batch, its a cut through competition. You dont feel it during the admission but you feel that burn during your placements.

From the highest package of 48 lakhs in FMCG like Tolaram to lowest package like 4.8 with good profile in company like Deloitte; there is good package (128 lakhs) in finance taking 56 students only and also there are banking companies like ICICI, HDFC and Standard Chartered with decent package (78 lakhs) and decent profile like CRM, BA(business analyst) and BDM( Business Development manager). If you are searching for good profile and learning in corporate then IBS have start up to serve you. But one thing you have to keep in mind, there are 3 things for which you do an MBA i.e.

1) brand name

2) package

3) profile

In IBS you have to compromise with at least one of them. One of my favorite faculty of IBS (actually everyone's most favorite sir) once said, Go for the profile first it is the most important in long run, then brand name, then package. You cant get EVERYthing here. But with a high investment of 14 lakhs its difficult to keep calm. There will be hell lot of pressure, mark my word. You cant predict the nature of work until you start working there. Most of the profile makes you do sales (talking about marketing, dont have much idea of finance and HR), you are gonna hate it but thats where everyone actually starts from.

Thats all about placements rest all IBS is best in everything from case based studies (you must know IBS PHD and its cases are world class and counted in the row with Harvards cases), good infrastructure and good mess facility, club & cell are gonna keep you engaged and my favorite was the semester exam pattern (not the internal exam-they were exactly opposite-bad). IBS overall is a great experience it teaches you a lot, may be because of the high intake and competition. You dont just graduate from IBS, you survive IBS.

Not everyone have studied in IBS, not everyone can judge it. Also, its not possible for everyone to experience all b-schools so no one can compare it.
