This is the basic information regarding the IIIT Kottayamm. Indian Institute of Information Technology Kottayam, at Valavoor, Kottayam, Kerala is one among the 20 new IIITs that have been proposed across the country. The project is implemented on  public-private partnership (PPP) mode with funding from the Central Government, State government and Private Partners.

Fifty three acres of land have been allocated for the project by Govt.of Kerala. The construction and development of the campus has been planned in three phases. The first two phases, which include the basic academic, administrative and other developments, is estimated to cost Rs. 128 crore, which will be shared by the Central ,State government and the industry partners in the ratio oF 50:35:15. The estimated cost of the third phase, which is envisaged as an expansion of the existing facility, will be around Rs. 70 crore.

The institution will offer B.Tech and M.Tech / MS , PhD courses in various engineering streams. It offers specialized courses covering all major research domains of computer science and engineering: Data science, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, Parallel Computing, HPC, Programming languages, Bioinformatics, and so forth, as part of the 4 year B.Tech program. In addition, it offers Ph.D program in CSE/ECE/Mathematics.

The transit campus of  institution is presently functioning in the academic building of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research , Trivandrum  (IISER-TVM) at Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation (GIFT) , Thiruvananthapuram and functioning under the ambit of the IIIT (PPP) Act 2017 under the Mentor-ship of IISER TVM . The permanent campus at Valavoor, Pala, Kottayan is expected to be functional in the Academic year 2018-19.
