Metallurgical Engineer, you work with a variety of metals to design new products, refine the collection process, and create different blends of metal to suit specific needs.. The third main category of metallurgical engineering is referred to as physical metallurgy.

Metallurgical Engineering is basically related to metallurgy and material science, that is, while learning inorganic chemistry for your JEE preparation you had metallurgy right, so the Advanced version of that is Metallurgical Engineering. Of course you will learn other subjects of engineering too, but it involves majorly the practical approach. The placement is not very great, because it's not a conventional course, and there are not many Jobs in India for that. But considering NIT, you may get placed. All the best!

Hey,

Metallurgical engineering is the study of metals. Combining theory and practice, degree programs cover the mining, extraction, design and processing of metals, as well as how metals react to environmental changes or stress. Students also learn fundamental engineering principles.

Inside Metallurgical Engineering

In the mining and manufacturing industries, metallurgical engineers apply their knowledge of metals to solve complex problems. They deal with all aspects of the production and application of metals and their alloys. This means that they must learn about each stage of the metal-making process, from mining and extraction through alloy formation and the use of metals in finished products. The Princeton Review notes that most metallurgical engineering programs have relationships with industry that allow students to participate in cooperative learning experiences.

In wake of the stress that is being laid on energy efficiency, the role of metallurgical engineers has acquired importance as they continuously work towards increasing the properties of metals and ensure that energy consumption is reduced. They have to ensure that the metals that they are developing are environment-friendly. The demand for metallurgical engineers will increase in India as the country is aiming to produce 200 million tons of steel by 2020. There is going to be an increase in a number of steel plants in the country, thereby, resulting in the rise in demand for metallurgical engineers. Metallurgical engineers are engaged in logistics of mines and mining, planning of mines and restructuring. Regarding logistics, they are responsible for efficiently and safely planning the process of moving material out and people in and out every day. They are also involved in making recommendations based on everyday observations. In the present scenario, they are also responsible for the environmental safety and have to keep in mind that the mines that are operating do not cause pollution.
