JIPMER counselling is conducted in offline mode in three to four rounds including Open round of counselling. There are two institutions of JIPMER, at Puducherry and JIPMER Karaikal. Candidates are allotted seats in each institution as per their ranks in the merit list. The number of candidates called by JIPMER for counselling are 10 times the total number of seats available in that category. Candidates can understand JIPMER counselling rounds will be executed and the rules governing them, from the following points. First round of counselling: Candidates will be required to exercise choice from two institutions of JIPMER. ü It must be noted that ‘sliding’ is not allowed by JIPMER, i.e. if a candidate opts for JIPMER Puducherry in one round of counselling, he/she will not be able to change the choice to JIPMER Karaika and vice-versa. However, sliding will be allowed for those reserved category candidates who opt for an unreserved seat when they are called through ‘common merit list’ and then they wish to opt for a seat under their respective reserved category. They will be able to vacate their unreserved seat and opt for their respective reserved category seat whenever (in whichever phase or round of a counselling process) they are called through their ‘reserved category merit list’. In such a case, the seat vacated by reserved category candidate, shall be filled only by a candidate belonging to same reservation category in the order of merit. ü It must be noted that if a candidate doesn’t opt for any institution in first round of counselling, they will be allowed to appear in second or subsequent rounds of counselling. ü Candidates who are called for first round of counselling, but fail to appear before counselling committee in the first round, they will be marked absent and will not be eligible to appear in subsequent counselling rounds (except in open round of counselling). l Second round of counselling: Second counselling will commence, if seats remain vacant after first round of counselling. ü Candidates who didn’t exercise a choice or weren’t called in the first round of counselling, will be eligible to attend second round of counselling. ü Same rules as applicable for first round of counselling will apply for second round of counselling. l Third round of counselling: Similarly, a third round of counselling will commence, if seats remain vacant after second round of counselling. Same rules as applicable for first round of counselling will apply for third round of counselling as well. l Open counselling: If any seats remain vacant after third round of counselling, , a fourth round of counselling, i.e. ‘Open Counselling’ will be conducted. All the qualified candidates whose names appeared in the merit list will be eligible to appear in this counselling as per their merit, irrespective of their attendance in previous rounds of counselling. Candidates who made choice in previous rounds of counselling will not be eligible for counselling.
