Medical College Kolkata is possibly one of the oldest colleges in Asia and is highly reputed for a good quality of medical education over the years and has been the first priority of students opting for the medical colleges in Kolkata at the undergraduate courses over a long period of time,as well as their guardians in terms of consistency and reputation

It has become more of a brand than actually a college but to be very honest there has been tough competition given by institutions like ipgmer &  nrs medical college as pertaining to the academic standards as well as technological facilities available at such institutions along with the wonderful cultural atmosphere present in colleges like Calcutta National medical College and the exhalted auditorium of RG kar medical College which still has not been able to break the complete Monopoly of Kolkata medical College as being the first college to be opted for and filled up during the state and all India rounds of counselling for NEET UG over the last few years



yes medical College Kolkata does boast of a proud student union but is associated with some political nuances which are not also as strong as certain other medical colleges and ipgmer lacking a union is more or less like a family with both these colleges having the reputation of no instances of ragging over the last few years except for a few untold incidents which might have occurred and is a part of medical college life in any college across India

So this is all I have to say and myself and student of ipgmer , I would definitely recommend my alumni to you but it is absolutely your call to choose between MCk, ipgmer any other college in Kolkata - at the end of the day what matters is the degree and not really your alma mater , but yes you are talking about the environment benefits ipgmer having lesser number of students provides more individual care then medical College which has 250 students and things might get a bit clumsy in wards and dissection halls but after all both colleges have their own merits and demerits and it's for you to choose which one you want to opt for
