First of all Congratulating you on your nice performance that you deserve such a good college and I would like to tell you that vnit nagpur is among top 5 NITs in India and even though you are getting mining it's not bad and there are chances of getting placed. So if you were to take my opinion then take admission without thinking much.

Good Things:

1. Beautiful campus. I have talked to people from IITB and other NITs. Many of them have complemented our institute on the natural beauty. I am sure that most of the present VNITians also may not know this, but our insti is a protected bird sanctuary, with many rare avian species being found here. We have a large playground, a big auditorium, two banks, night canteens, day canteens, music room, student activity centers etc. They even have a MiG on the campus! I bet most instis cannot boast about that. We have a large library and a computer center too. They also have an in-house health centre.

2. Strong alumni base. We have a strong alumni association-VNIT AA. The present collector of Nagpur is an alumnus of our insti. The people at the alumni association are very helpful and cooperative.

3. Events. A variety of events take place in the insti around the year. Some of them are-

4. Good academic standing. I cannot really speak about other departments, but Mechanical and Electronics are considered to be good, as far as academics is considered. ranked 11th in the nation by Times Engineering Survey-i.e. the best NIT in India. Try to maintain a CGPA above 9 while at VNIT. While it may not matter much in your later life, a low CGPA certainly closes doors to many opportunities for you.

5. Clubs. This is an integral part of the life at VNIT. There were at least 25-30 clubs in VNIT when I last looked. Whether your a tech freak or a dance freak or a sports freak, all types of clubs and communities are available. Try to become a part of at least one club while you are at VNIT. We also have our own institute magazine called INSIGHT. The magazine community has been doing fab work since past two years.

6. Good placements. Since you are in ECE, I would speak regarding the placements of that department. Placements of ECE and CSE are better compared to other departments. Most CSE companies allow ECE students to sit for the interviews. So you have an added advantage. Placements this year were better than the last years. This trend is expected to remain for next few years.

7. Research. Many opportunities would be available for you in VNIT. The ECE department has a Centre of Excellence in Combedded Systems. It is the ONLY centre of excellence in VNIT. Centre of Excellence is a research body funded directly by the central government. We also have a Centre for VLSI and Nanotechnology. Research being done there is the best among the NITs and better than many IITs. I cannot comment on the research opportunities in other departments. Publication ratio of this insti is comparatively less. Very less people publish in good journals here.
