Hi Piyush!

Welingkar Institute of Management has a good brand name and is able to leverage the same across various domains & specializations. The institute offers 2-year Post graduate Diploma in Management. The specializations offered are Marketing, Human Resources, Finance and Operation. Students discover their true potential after practicing rigor and focused hard work having selected the specialization of their choice.

1.ABOUT PGDM COURSE:

It also offers multiple course options based on industry preferences:

  • PGDM (Standard) - FIN / OPS / MKTG / HR
  • PGDM E-Business (Tech driven) - FIN / OPS / MKTG / HR
  • PGDM Business Design (General Management - no specialization)
  • PGDM Healthcare
  • PGDM Retail Management
  • PGDM Rural Management
  • PGDM Media & Entertainment (covers media of all forms)

The trimester system followed in the program facilitates students with the flexibility required to engage in several live projects and activities that mould their personality. Subjects like Strategic Management, International Business, Business Ethics & Corporate Governance, Leadership Practices, Team Building Exercises, Cross Functional Roles, Advanced Tax Management, Operating System, Business Systems Analysis, Entrepreneurship Management, Functional Specialization Projects,

2.FACULTY AND EXPOSURE:

  • The course curriculum is very useful in leveraging our existing knowledge and uplift our intellect to face the challenging corporate world and be confident to deliver as required. All outside faculty members that visit the college are from top institutes like IIMA, IIMB, SP Jain, IIML etc. There is a great exposure to interactive learning through a visit to Steel plant and government run initiatives like Public Distribution system, Tribal arts etc.
  • Welingkar has a very good outbound program. This is conducted after 15 days of joining where all students are taken outside the city for outdoor activities (physical + intellectual). This is pure fun & GREAT learning and I pity those colleges who don’t conduct this.
  • The college has multiple tie ups with Universities abroad with whom they constantly review curriculum and even invite their professors to come to campus to teach certain courses for an entire trimester.
  • It also has tie ups with some top business schools abroad with whom they conduct student exchange programs.

3.PLACEMENTS:

The placements are decent enough, the percentage for placement remains to be around 85% placed. This year's highest package was 13.5 lacs per annum (domestic), the lowest was 4 lacs per annum, so the average is around 6-8 lacs per annum. The roles offered were management trainee, territory sales manager, research executive, credit risk manager, analyst, etc.

Although average package is around 7.5 LPA so ROI is not that encouraging given the fees of 11 Lacs that one has to pay. Also placement process are handled by a dedicated group of people hired by college so student involvement is pretty low.

4.FEE STRUCTURE:

Fees is Rs. 11,00,000 for PGDM and Rs. 6,40,000+ for MMS.

5.RECRUITERS:

For the HR branch, Welingkar can boast of a couple of International placements and/or CTC packages of 10+ LPA. Typically, Welingkar does manage to attract good brands like:

Amul ,Aditya Birla Group, BATA, Zee, Asian Paints. HCL , L&T, Infosys, Accenture, Deloitte, Citibank, HDFC, ICICI Pru, Landmark,  Accenture, Madhura Garments, Mc Donald's, HDFC bank, E&Y, Deloitte etc. However, the college is dependent on the market trend for the year.

6.INFRASTRUCTURE :

The Physical Infrastructure is not much impressive but Welingkar has a Wi-Fi campus, multiple study rooms, brilliant IT infrastructure, wide range of books in the library, Audio/Video room where you can select and play informative videos, play room and also a Gym. It also has an ocean of case-studies which you can study and analyse.

7.FOOD FACILITIES:

Hostel & food is more of a characteristic of the Mumbai metro city. Welingkar is placed in a student populated area, thus has a good advantage over other colleges. IT is in an area which is known for good food, thus has flurry of options for good, tasty food. Hostel, given the restrictions & complexities of the city is respectable.

Overall, without any doubt a PGDM from Welingkar is one that could be considered if you are looking for a substantial shift in your career and a good ROI and flexibility topped with exposure.

Hope the information was helpful.

Good Luck!
