In Karnataka, there are around 57 medical colleges. The Karnataka MBBS conducts around 85% of the state quota which consists of 6577 seats in medical colleges out of which 596 are reserved for NRI students. Following is the count of seats for particular categories:

• Govt quota general :- 2950 seats
• Govt quota Hyd-Kar:- 739 seats
• Govt quota special category:- 261 seats
• NRI quota:- 591 seats
• Private quota:- 1295 seats
• Other quota:- 186 seats

The rest are Private Medical Colleges. 15% seats from all Government Medical Colleges are allotted to Central Pool for All India Counselling.
