How many government MBBS seats are available in 2020 in India???
Dear Arnab, as of 2019 June, we had approximately 80,000 MBBS seats. Now among these close to 35,000 are in GMCs. And after EWS reservation, across the country, approximately 5,000 MBBS seats have been added to the lot. Now, the Health Ministry has proposed 75 new Medical Colleges across India. Tamilnadu will get 6, AP will get 3, UP will have 1 Medical College for every 2 districts, so and so forth. Now even if these 75 colleges start with 100 seats initially, that will be 7500 seats. This will be added to the already existing approximately 40,000 seats which means by 2020, we will have approximately 50,000 MBBS seats in Government Medical Colleges across India. Now, every Private Medical College also will have Government Quota approximately 50 or 60 percent of their seats. If this number is added to the existing lot of approximately 50,000 MBBS seats, assuming this number might be 10,000 we will have close to 60,000 MBBS seats.
In 2019, there was a total of 72,098 MBBS seats in the country. More 15,700 seats have been added for NEET 2020, as a result of government approving 75 more medical colleges. The total number of MBBS and BDS seats will be close to one lakh in 2020.
