You can join as many courses as you want.There is free access to their videos and learning is fee.If you want to get a certificate then you need to write the exam and they charge fee for the exam.But as you don't want to write the exam still you can join as many courses as you want which they are offering in this semester.If you want to unenroll for any of the course you need to login in their portal using your email address and password.You can see the list of the courses you have enrolled.Click on the course you wish to unenroll and unenroll.You cannot unenroll if you the course has already been started.Just ignore if you cannot unenroll.

Well if you are officially registering for any NPTEL course and you want it's credits to be considered for evaluation then you have to sit for the examination otherwise they are not considered. Otherwise the material and videos are available openly and you can study as much as you like. The number of courses you can take per semester depends on the provisions made by your college.
