Solution : 40 = 2 3 × 5
If N = a m × b n , where a and b are prime numbers, the number of positive factors of N = (m+1) × (n+1)
The number of positive factors of 40 = (3+1) × (1+1) = 8
Hence, the correct answer is 8.
